A Scottish teenager faces jail after trying to lure a 12-year-old Caerphilly girl into bed after meeting her on internet site Bebo.

Caerphilly council tears down road signs

Usually vandals tear signs down and the council puts them back up.

Not so in this instance.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has been taking down road signs it feels are a distraction to motorists.

The authority is on a mission to rid the county borough of unnecessary signs.

Football tournament in memory of Abertridwr’s ‘Hovis’

 

An indoor football tournament is to be held next month in memory of David Furness, a former member of staff at Caerphilly Leisure Centre.

The Dave Furness Memorial Cup has been organised by Sport Caerphilly CB in partnership with Gwent Police and Caerphilly and St Cenydd Leisure Centres.

The six-a-side tournament will run during the second and third weeks of December.

Lindsay Whittle calls for more police cash

 

Lindsay Whittle, the leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, has called upon the Government for more policing funds.

Mr Whittle said that after meeting with Gwent Police Chief Constable Mike Giannasi the police authority had a £10 million shortfall.

Councillor Whittle said: “It’s clear that Gwent Police does not have enough funding and that is down to the Home Office.”

Former Blackwood GP honoured by local Labour Party

 

Members of Islwyn Labour Party recently came together to recognise, Dr Dipak Ray for his dedication and commitment to the party over the years.

At a meeting in Pontllanfraith, Don Touhig MP, Irene James AM joined chair Councillor Tom Williams to present Dr Ray with a Labour Party merit award for his selfless contribution to the Labour Party.

Dr Ray has dedicated his life to promoting equal opportunities and campaigning for improvements in the NHS.
