Girl, 16, assaulted in Maesycymmer alleyway

Caerphilly youngsters visit European Union
A group of young people from Caerphilly County Borough’s Youth Forum and The Hub projects had the chance to grill a European Parliamentary official during a recent visit to Brussels. The thirteen young people were invited to visit the European Parliamentary building in Brussels by Member of European Parliament Jill Evans. The youngsters quizzed her on a series of issues that were raised at the recent Youth Forum Conference in Caerphilly County Borough. |
Young Caerphilly firefighters complete training
Five firefighting youngsters have been presented with the certificates for completing basic firefighting training. Christopher Sarah, Rhys Cronin, Samuel Logan, Hywel Pedrick and Haydn Williams, who are members of the Young Firefighters’ Association, were awarded their Intermediate BTEC Basic Fire Fighting certificates at an awards ceremony held at Penallta House, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s headquarters. |
Graig-Y-Rhacca man jailed for killing and freezing kitten
A 20-year-old Graig-Y-Rhacca man who abused and killed a kitten has been jailed for 16 weeks. Joel White, of Longfellow Gardens, was sent to a young offender institution by Cardiff magistrates after strangling the ten-week-old kitten and putting it in a freezer. |

Five Bluebirds fans charged after football violence
Five Cardiff City FC fans, all from Caerphilly, have been charged with violent disorder after a clash with rival Swindon Town FC fans. Dominic Towell, 28 of Farm Road, Caerphilly, Jordan Gurner, 19 of Glyn Collen, Llanbradach, Lee Evans, 27 of King Street Abertridwr, Michael Grainger, 22, of Brynawel, Machen, and Steven Harding, 28 of Wedgewood Court, Caerphilly, will all appear before Swindon Magistrates’ Court in the New Year to answer the charges. |
Llanbradach Follies artwork unveiled
Two eye-catching five-metre high towers have been unveiled in Llanbradach. Artist Kay Aplin has created the spectacular towers called Llanbradach Follies and they have already become a landmark in the village since being unveiled by Councilor John Evans, the Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council. |
Cefn Fforest dog beating left animal with brain damage
Police are appealing for information to try and catch the person who beat a dog so badly that it may have suffered brain damage. The attack on the terrier cross-breed, named Holly by her carers, happened on November 30 at 3pm in Cefn Fforest. A passer-by stepped in to help the dog and stopped the attack. Holly, as she was later named, was taken to the Bridge Veterinary Surgery in Pontllanfraith, for treatment. |
Operation Santa a huge success
Generous residents across Caerphilly County Borough have donated almost 2,000 gifts to this year’s Operation Santa appeal. More than 600 children in Caerphilly County Borough Council’s care, who are not supported by any other appeal, will be given the gifts this Christmas. |
Oakdale copper honoured by Prime Minister
An Oakdale policeman has been honoured for his achievements at a special reception at 10 Downing Street with the Prime Minister. Chief Superintendent, Ian Johnston, who is also the president of the Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales, attended the reception recently with his wife Janet after being nominated to attend by Islwyn MP, Don Touhig. Mr Johnston served for 33 years with Gwent Police and was the Basic Command Unit Commander serving the Local Authority areas of Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent immediately prior to taking up his appointment with the Association. |
Pontllanfraith car trader prosecuted for unsafe vehicles
A motor trader has been prosecuted for the sale of unsafe vehicles from his garage in Pontllanfraith. Phillip Tyrone Taylor, 37, who until the end of November 2008 traded as both Blackwood Van Hire and PT Cars from Belmont Garage in Pontllanfraith, admitted four charges under consumer protection law at Caerphilly Magistrates Court. |
