Caerphilly Miners’ community centre plan gathers pace

 
Dozens of people attended a coffee morning to find out more about the campaign to ransform Caerphilly Miners' into a community centre.

The campaign to transform Caerphilly District Miners’ Hospital into a community centre is gathering pace.

The Caerphilly Miners Community Centre Management Committee, which was set up last year to try and keep the main building for the community, held its first event on Saturday.

85-year-old woman robbed in Bedwas home

 

Police are appealing for information after an 85-year-old woman was robbed in her own home.

Two men, both aged about 18, broke into the elderly woman’s house on Pandy Road, in Bedwas, through an unsecured door between 7.30pm and 8pm on Saturday January 23.

Caerphilly District Miners’ Hospital could be bought and turned into a community centre.

The Caerphilly Miners Community Centre Management Committee was set up last year with the aim of keeping the historic main building open for community use.

Caerphilly residents swap motorbikes for bicycles

 

Residents have traded in their off-road motorbikes for bicycles as part of a police scheme.

People in Bedwas, Graig-Y-Rhacca, Llanbradach and Lansbury Park areas of Caerphilly handed over 17 off-road vehicles such as motorised bikes, trikes and quads.

Blackwood's Big Balloon event has been axed to save £50,000.

Blackwood’s annual Big Balloon Festival has been scrapped after poor weather ruined past events.

A report to Caerphilly County Borough Council by its chief executive Stuart Rosser said that despite attracting thousands of people, the event had run its course and should be axed.

Christmas drink drive success for Gwent Police

 
Gwent Police

Just 0.4% of drivers stopped through Gwent Police’s Christmas anti drink-drive tested positive for alcohol.

In total 20,578 drivers in Gwent were stopped as part of the campaign, which ran from December 1 to January 1.

A Caerphilly-based food and drink wholesalers is giving away a year’s supply of Fairtrade tea.

TDL Food and Drink, based on the Pontygwindy Industrial Estate, supplies Fairtrade and ethical products to businesses across South Wales.

Caerphilly Council still clearing rubbish backlog
