Labour’s Wayne David launches general election campaign

Caerphilly MP Wayne David has today officially launched his campaign for re-election as the Labour candidate.

Earlier today Prime Minister Gordon Brown called the election for May 6 and drove to Buckingham Palace to officially ask the Queen to dissolve Parliament.

Ron Davies backs Plaid Cymru’s Lindsay Whittle in MP bid

Former Secretary of State for Wales Ron Davies today threw his support behind council leader Lindsay Whittle’s bid to become the next Caerphilly MP.

Ron Davies, who was a elected as an Independent councillor in Caerphilly in 2008 and serves as a cabinet member in the Plaid-led council administration, said that Lindsay Whittle would make a superb advocate for Caerphilly as a Plaid MP.

Nut-free bakery opens in Oakdale

A businessman whose two daughters suffer with severe nut allergies has opened a specialist nut-free bakery in Oakdale.

Fed up with not being able to buy his two children birthday cakes with a guarantee of no nuts, former Avana Bakeries and Memory Lane Cakes managing director Mike Woods decided to set up The Just Love Food Company.

Mr Woods said: “Since my children were diagnosed with severe nut allergies in 2001, I have struggled to find suitable food products on the market dedicated to nut allergy sufferers.

The Honeybee population in Caerphilly County Borough could be boosted after plans for a new apiary were unveiled.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is to lease land near Trethomas to the Cardiff, Vale and Valleys Beekeeping Association for a new apiary

The proposed nursery apiary will allow enthusiasts to learn all about beekeeping.

Two Blackwood students have scooped top prizes at a national hairdressing competition.

Coleg Gwent students Angie Reynolds, 17, and 18-year-old Becki Jenkins had success at the national finals of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition in Blackpool.
