Caerphilly Youth Theatre perform Basset

Caerphilly Youth Theatre group is to perform its successful play ‘Bassett’ at Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre.

Written by James Graham and following a very successful run at Blackwood Miners’ Institute, ‘Bassett’ will once again be performed by actors from the group on Friday April 15 at the venue’s Weston Studio, at 7.30pm.

Set in a school in Wootton Bassett, the play is a pacy, funny and exhausting drama which looks at young people who have inherited a world at war, who, as they grow older, are starting to ask questions about conflicts, their country and themselves.

Director, Tony Gallagher said: “The actors involved with Caerphilly County Youth Theatre enjoy the challenge of their involvement in Bassett because it is a play being performed as the war in Afghanistan is actually happening. The thought-provoking nature of the play may encourage audience members to consider the effects of the constant ‘in your face’ reminder of war and the effect it could have on these young people.

“Cast members feel the pupils at the school in Wootton Bassett are in a unique and perhaps at times, surreal situation compared to other pupils in other schools across the UK, because although they are thousands of miles away from war torn Afghanistan, they are constantly reminded of what is happening each time there is the repatriation of a soldier killed in action.”

Tickets cost £6. The production contains some strong language and is suitable for an audience aged 15 plus.

Tickets are available at www.wmc.org.uk
