Turn up the music and get ready to rock as Coleg Gwent students take to the stage for the British première of Disney’s Camp Rock: The Musical this March.

The 60-strong cast of first and second year musical theatre students will be stepping into the spotlight at the Dolman Theatre in Newport with high energy dance routines and irresistibly catchy songs between March 9 and 11.

Camp Rock: The Musical is based on the hit Disney films which feature the lead character Mitchie Torres. The shy, aspiring musician attempts to bring the heart and soul back to Camp Rock in an ultimate final jam against musical rivals Techno Star Campers.

Musical Theatre Lecturer and Director of the production Kate Greenaway said: “It’s going to be a fantastic show. It’s a big challenge, but students are gaining essential performance experience and there is so much talent and skill in the cast. They are working hard to ensure a spectacular show for all the family.”

Students Lauren Davies and Demi Holborn will be sharing the lead role of Mitchie in the production.

Lauren, 17 from Aberbargoed said: “I’m looking forward to the show, Mitchie is a great character to play with lots of singing and acting and the rehearsals are going really well.”
