The Community Guide and Directory has been compiled by Caerphilly County Borough Council in partnership with Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO).

It includes information about the many voluntary organisations, community groups and other agencies across the county borough.

Caerphilly Miners' Community Centre

Caerphilly District Miners’ Hospital will be closed down once the new £172.7million Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital is opened in autumn next year.

The Caerphilly Miners Community Centre Management Committee was set up last year with the aim of keeping the historic main building open for community use.

Islwyn Canal Association

The Islwyn Canal Association was formed in 2002 and is active along the Crumlin Arm of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.

It's aim is the restoration of the canal from Cwmcarn to Rogerstone for the benefit of the community.

It undertakes a variety of projects associated with the canal such as guided walks and litter picking.

Friends of Newbridge Memo

In 1898 a group of local miners formed themselves into a committee to establish an association aimed at improving the social amenities of their fellow workers

In 1908 the Institute was built followed by the Memorial Hall in 1924.

The Friends of Newbridge Memo group aims to regenerate the Celynen Collieries Institute and Memorial Hall and Cinema for proper community usage.

Oxford House Industrial History Society

The Oxford House Industrial History Society was formed in 1971 following a series of lectures given by the late Ray Bowen on industrial archaeology at Oxford House Adult Education Centre.

The society runs The Risca Industrial Heritage Museum housed at the former Risca Collieries Workmen’s Institute, at the junction of St Mary Street and Grove Road.
