Chris Evans, Labour MP for Islwyn

Labour’s Chris Evans was elected to represent Islwyn in 2010 after predecessor Don Touhig decided to stand down after 15 years as the area’s MP.

In fact Mr Evans used to be Mr Touhig’s Parliamentary researcher and according to his Labour Party biography has been a party member since he was 15.

Brought up in the Rhondda valleys, he was educated at Porth County Comprehensive, Pontypridd College and Trinity College, Carmarthen where he graduated with a history degree.

He is a member of Unite, the Fabians Society and the Co-operative Party.

His selection as the Labour candidate in the 2010 general election provoked a row within the party with four Labour councillors quitting the Islwyn Labour Party in protest at what they saw as a snub to local members.
