Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall regeneration plans to be discussed

Senior councillors from Caerphilly County Borough Council will meet with trustees from Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall this week to discuss options for how the building could be regenerated.
Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and planning, Cllr Lindsay Whittle, leader of the council and Cllr Phil Bevan, local ward member and cabinet member for education, will meet to discuss ideas for how the hall can play a greater role within Caerphilly town.
Cllr Davies said: “We are keen to meet with trustees of the hall to look into ways in which we as a council can work more collaboratively with the local community, and look at ways in which the hall could be even better utilised by residents of the town and surrounding villages.
“It is pleasing to note the resolve of so many residents to help restore the hall to its former glory and as a venue for community events, and we are committed to assist in any way we are able to ensure this is able to come to fruition.”
Well done to those councillors for getting involved.I remeber going to the Saturday morning “flicks” as we used to call them.Its a great hall and should be saved.

Unfortunately the councillors can have meetings and talk all they want. Nothing will get done to rejuvenate the town.

I would like to say what a wonderful afternoon I spent at cerphilly Workmans Hall with my three grandchil dren watching the Caerphilly Players pantomime. It brought a lot of memories back to me as I there every Saturday during the sixties to watch the films.
The ceiling is magnificent,unfortunatley on visiting the ladies toilet I was transported back to the sixties, the toilet had not changed and was not clean.
This would be a wonderful venue for culture ,concerts and arts for Caerphilly Town,please somebody move this building on into the 21 st century ,we could have a culture centre to be proud of for us and future generations.

Can anyone update me on what the out come to any further meeting on saving this Beautiful Hall. I agree it would be wonderful to have it as a centre for local culture, art and theatre again … It’s well worth the saving, I think it could be maybe modernized without losing the character. I understand that there were plans in the pipeline, but it seems to have gone quiet again on the plans.
So many people have expressed that it should be saved and open for the Community of Caerphilly. Please can we try and make it happen?
