School children lay wreaths at the Armistice Day ceremony in Caerphilly town
School children from across the Caerphilly town area gathered to pay their respect and mark Armistice Day with a two-minute silence and wreath laying ceremony.
A service was held at 11am at the town’s cenotaph with local dignities ahead of the Royal British Legion’s service on Remembrance Sunday.
Philip Atkinson, a teacher at St Martin’s School, helps to organise the service every year with colleague Matthew Ferris.
After the ceremony Mr Atkinson said: “Matthew, who couldn’t be here today, works very closely with the Royal British Legion organising this and we do a lot of work on Remembrance in the school.
“This is a great chance to let children know what the Poppy is all about.”
