A 16-year-old boy from Ystrad Mynach has been given an Antisocial Behaviour Order (ASBO) for his “abusive and intimidating” behaviour

Daniel Maslen, of Station Road, was given a two-year ASBO by Caerphilly Magistrates on December 23 after a series of incidents in the Ystrad Mynach and Gelligaer areas.

Maslen displayed frequent abusive, intimidating and antisocial behaviour, and despite numerous interventions as part of the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership’s ‘four strikes’ policy, his behaviour continued.

The ASBO prevents Daniel Maslen, anywhere within the Caerphilly County Borough area from:

  • Acting in a manner, which causes, or is likely to cause nuisance, harassment, alarm or distress to any person.
  • Causing damage or attempting to cause damage to any property not belonging to him.
  • Intentionally throwing any object at any person, property or vehicle.
  • Entering Gelligaer shopping centre, including the Co-op Store and the areas surrounding it, as defined on a map attached to the order.
  • Purchasing, carrying or consuming alcohol in a public place.
  • Being drunk in a public place.

Councillor Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection, engineering and transport, said: “I hope the gaining of this Antisocial Behaviour Order will send out a strong message to the small minority who feel it is acceptable to behave in an anti-social manner that their behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Kevin Childs, Neighbourhood Inspector for the Ystrad Mynach area, said: “Breaches of Antisocial Behaviour Orders are taken very seriously by the courts. I am certain that this order will bring some much-deserved peace and quiet to the neighbours and residents who have previously been affected by the behaviour of this 16-year-old boy.”
