Blackwood construction site manager honoured with second award
A building site foreman from Blackwood has been named as one of the best in the business for the second time in four years.
Paul Phillips, 32, has been selected for a Pride in the Job Quality Award by the National House-Building Council.
Only 400 people are chosen for Pride in the Job Quality Awards – recognised as the house-building industry’s Oscars – out of nearly 13,000 eligible site managers across the UK.
Mr Phillips, who works for developers Lovell, was recognised for his work on the company’s new Parc Eglwys housing development at Bassaleg near Newport.
He said: “I’m chuffed to bits.
“It’s been a lot of hard work but the award is in no way just down to me – credit must also go to the great team I have working with me on site, including our subcontractors. It’s fantastic for everyone.”
Lovell regional manager Nick Kurobasa says: “This is a stunning achievement by Paul and thoroughly deserved. He is a superb site manager who consistently excels in every aspect of delivering a new housing development and is totally dedicated to building homes of the highest quality. We couldn’t be more pleased for him.”
The Pride in the Job Quality Award will be presented at a special lunch in September at Cardiff City Hall. Paul will also go forward for the next round of the competition where he will be eligible to win a Seal of Excellence certificate.
Paul began working in the construction industry in 2001 as a forklift driver and labourer, quickly progressing into site management and gaining NVQ qualifications. He has worked for Lovell since 2008.Follow @CaerphillyObsvr
