Bedwas surrendered a first half lead to allow Bridgend to win a well contested match at the Bridge Field in the Principality Premiership on April 19.

The first 15 minutes were evenly contested with neither side creating an opportunity to score.

Bedwas broke the deadlock after 16 minutes when veteran number 8 Deri Mattravers broke off the back of a scrum to run in under the posts for Richard Powell to convert.

Bridgend bounced back with a Ross Jones penalty before adding a try of their own from Adam Williams.

Mattravers added his second try, again from the back of a scrum as the Bedwas forwards shunted their opponents backwards.

Richard Powell again converted for a  14-8 half-time lead.

With the wind at their backs for the second half Bridgend were a transformed side.

Full back Jamie Murphy crossed for a try out wide, converted by Ross Jones to put Bridgend ahead for the first time.

Jones added a second penalty as both sides looked for a match winning try.

It finally came Bridgend’s way as a break by Ross Jones put right wing Luke Morgan in for a try.

Jones missed the conversion but Bedwas could not take advantage as Bridgend held on for a deserved win.

On Saturday April 26 Bedwas travel to the Arms Park, Cardiff, for their last Principality Premiership game of the 2013-14 season. Kick-off is at 2.30pm.
